HELLO FROM THE OPEN ROAD
Jun 08, 2010

Hello Everyone,
Kenny and I are about half way through our house concert tour and thus far it has been fantastic. Our hosts have been really kind and the audiences have seemed really happy with the "2 guys with 2 guitars" format.
We have already put more than 2000 miles on our trusty, rust colored Subaru that we rented at the Atlanta airport way back on May 21st. Since then we have played shows in Columbia, Charleston, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NY, Providence and tonight in Pittsburgh.  We have been hosted by book publishers, union organizers, chemists, art students, photographers and even toy designers.  I feel like we have made some great new friends along the way
I've been getting to swim in some amazing places.  There was a pristine, 50 meter lap pool in the ghetto in Charleston that was one of the most pleasant places I've ever swam.  Each morning for several days I would head over there with Joshua, our host in Charleston, Chin Chin, a Chinese/Uruguayan cellist and Marco, a classical guitarist also from Uruguay. I swam in the ocean in Long Island, NY and a wonderful lake outside of Providence.
I feel like I might have stumbled on my favorite form of touring thus far.  I am so grateful to all of the people who have welcomed us into their homes and made it just a little bit easier to be away from ours.

BRAZZA NEWS APRIL, 2010
Apr 05, 2010

Hello Everyone,
Spring has arrived in Barcelona! The skies are a deep blue and thunderstorms roll through but don't stay.  Everyone seems happy and the trees have tiny green leaves on them.
I just got back from a wonderful tour in Russia.  I played shows in the Far East, Siberia, the Urals and even Nizhniy Novgorod.  It was an amazing amount of traveling but well worth it.  The audiences were so kind. I also played kvartirniks (house concerts) in Barnaul, Novosibirsk and Omsk. They were amazing.  They were all organized by a guy named Alexander from Barnaul.  He did a great job.  Before each concert, he would stop by a market and buy a huge bag of apples and bananas. Half way through the show, we would take a break and some of the guests would go off into the kitchen with him and emerge a few minutes later with some big plates of fruit.  I was struck by the communal spirit of the people.  Everyone sat around eating slices of apple and banana and sharing some large bottles of water.  I guess that is one of the positive legacies of the Soviet era.  Russians seem very comfortable in close proximity to one another and they're really good at sharing! They also have much better eating habits than Americans. Anyway, the shows were really fun and intimate and I hope to play more of them in the future.
I have lots of shows coming up in the next few months.  First will be shows in April in Ekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and Moscow with the Turkish band that I recorded Brazzaville In Istanbul with. Next will be several show in Holland in May with Ramon (drums) and Brady (bass). Next will be a whole bunch of concerts across the USA.  Most of them will be acoustic shows and house concerts that I will be playing with Kenny Lyon.  But there will alsobe some club dates with a full band in NY, Milwaukee, Chicago and L.A.  Finally, we have been invited to play a music festival in Ulan Ude in mid March.  It is right next to the amazing Lake Baikal. It's not confirmed yet but hopefully will be soon.  If it happens, I will try to book some other shows in the area.
All of the details about the shows are available on the gig page of the website or on our myspace page, www.myspace.com/brazzaville

BRAZZAVILLE NEWS FEB. 2010
Feb 22, 2010

Hello Everyone,  Here are a few highlights of what is going on these days:

-Brazzaville In Istanbul has entered the European World Music Chart at number 18! You can see more information about the chart at
http://www.wmce.de/

-The very first Micro-concert was held in our Barcelona studio on Feb. 13 and was a lot if fun. It's so cozy to play a "tiny" concert. We will be having our second one this Saturday the 27th.  In March there will be Micro-concerts featuring the VO quartet, a Barcelona based all female string quartet and hopefully and Guillermo Matorell a young avant garde composer, also based here in Barcelona.

-The response to the House Concert Tour of the US has been fantastic! Thus far, it seems that we will be playing shows in LA, the SF Bay area, Portland, Vancouver, Milwaukee (and probably Madison, Chicago,Minneapolis as well), Cincinnati, Lincoln, Providence, New York City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Columbia SC and Charleston. I am really looking forward to this tour. There are few things that I love more than taking a road trip in the USA!

-It seems that we will be playing some shows in Amsterdam and possibly other parts of Holland in May.

-We are waiting for news about a possible tour in Kazakhstan and maybe Uzbekistan as well!

-We will be playing some shows in Russia in March, including a big show on Woman's Day in Vladivostok, where I am sure that i will have the opportunity to sing Girl from Vladivostok.
